After 40 years in marketing, I’ve learned that —

 

  • The WEAKEST part of all struggling businesses is having OUTREACH systems to reach out to new prospects; and
    .
  • Capturing their info and doing multiple-touch FOLLOWUP systems will multiply the actual sales from the outreach by 3 to 10 times.
(Pretty much ALL growing and prospering companies have these two in place, and pretty much ALL struggling businesses do not have adequate and regular outreach systems. And this struggle goes on forever.)

While there are a number of outreach programs one could use, and I’m happy to chat with anyone about that, my tip for today is a simple capture-and-followup method that few people use. This is something  you could hire out, or do for  yourself, and it will help solve the problem of growing and prospering.

 

Your Checklist for the “Simple Capture-And-FollowUp System” —

 

  1. Find and choose ONE “juicy carrot” bait-piece to use all the time. Make it something that can be delivered via a link. For example, a discount certificate, a free report or video, a checklist or hotlist. (When you create this, then inside it put ANOTHER attractive offer to be their next step, with a new call to action, to get a conversation started.)

  2. Give it a very provocative title that addresses a problem that most of the target audience have, and they know it’s a problem.
    .
  3. Make a graphic or 3D graphic if you can. Add this into the header graphic.
    .
  4. Now advertise this in the big free picture on your Facebook, LinkedIn etc. The big free picture at the top of the page, called the header or cover. Advertise it the same way on your website. The same offer. This way, anyone who DOES visit any of your sites will see it, without the need that they scroll or click anything.

  5. Have a short URL that’s easily read by humans, and put this in as the call to action. So whether the graphic is clickable or not, the human can see it and type it to get the juicy carrot you offer.

  6. Capture their contact information. Good into to capture includes their name, and email, and beyond that, you may drop a facebook pixel, capture them inside any messenger chatbot, and maybe capture cellphone number.
    .
  7. Have your system — whatever it is — acknowledge them for signing up and deliver the link to the freebie, and it should notify you. It should store their information, and then set up some sort of regular followup to create multiple touches. THEY will drop the ball, but you can keep it in play, and you get WAY more signups.

  8. If you do not have a fancy auto-responder or messenger chatbot, you can still do all this, and for free. Use a google form, which can capture their info into a google sheet for follow up. It can send them an acknowledge email (with the link to the freebie included.) It can notify you that you have a new lead.

Capture, Converse, Convert

And then — remember to set up some sort of regular multi-touch followup to get more of them into a conversation.

Because only after you begin a conversation can they convert into a customer and pay you for what you do.

The logic of using outreach and follow-up is as follows —

  • If you outreach to enough of the appropriate people, you’ll find enough people with an interest
  • If you find enough people with an interest, you can begin to have enough conversations
  • If you have enough conversations, then enough people will sign up
  • If enough people sign up, you will have enough money
  • If you have enough money, you can grow and prosper

Note that it all boils down to that first “IF” — if you outreach to enough of the appropriate people. Solve that, and all the rest can follow.

There you go: The biggest source of struggle and failure. The solution to that struggle. And although I’ve not give answers to finding the best outreach systems, included above is a detailed capture-for-followup system that can be completely free across all your website properties.
